Chromebook help.
Your Chromebook is the main tool your student uses each day for classes, assignments, and communication. Not all schools provide Chromebooks, but a laptop or desktop computer is required. This guide covers setup, Wi-Fi, common fixes, and when to contact TSD.
Tablets and phones are not recommended for daily use. Hardware varies by school, so this guide is intentionally general.
Setting up your Chromebook
Follow these steps the first time you turn on your Chromebook:
Power it on
Press the power button.
Connect to Wi-Fi
Join your home network (see below for help with this step).
Sign in with the school Google account
This is the @[school].org email address you received at enrollment.
Follow the on-screen prompts
Once you reach the home screen, your Chromebook is ready.
Don't have your student's school email yet? Contact your Success Coach.
Connecting to Wi-Fi
Your Chromebook needs an internet connection to access Canvas, myAMP meetings, and all your school tools.
Open the system tray
Bottom-right corner of the screen — the area with the clock and battery icon.
Click the Wi-Fi icon
Then select your home network from the list.
Enter your password
Type your network password to connect.
Try moving closer to your router, restarting your modem and router, or using an ethernet adapter if available. If your home internet is unreliable or unavailable, contact your school — connectivity support may be available for eligible families.
McKinney-Vento supportFixing common issues
Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a restart. Wait 30 seconds, then power it back on. Still frozen after restart? Contact TSD.
Click the address bar in your browser and look for a camera or microphone icon on the right side. Click it and set permissions to "Allow." Restart the browser and try again. Still not working? Contact TSD.
Make sure you're using your student's school Google account (not a personal Gmail), and check that Caps Lock is off. If you've forgotten the password, contact TSD to reset it.
Returning your Chromebook
Chromebook return policies vary by school. Contact your school directly for information about when and how to return your device. You can also check the Chromebook help resources for more.
